I really enjoyed seeing the Maasai Giraffe subspecies in the Mara last year...lovely coat patterns and tones.

I am heading there again over the weekend...let's see what the Mara delivers this year.

Nice placement here with the head against that darker green background. The shapes and contours are very nice.

A friend is just finishing up his time in the Mara, and it seems like there's a lot going on. Good luck!

Good work to catch the giraffe in profile. Most shots that I've seen are head on shots. With yours, you get to see the fine patterning on the head as well as details of the head. The overall pose and the graceful curvature of the neck is very pleasing. Richard

Hi Morkel,

Wow, the head here almost appears too big for the fragile appearing neck. The patterning on the head is interesting. I think the white patches of sky detract a little from the shot, but they definitely aren't "deal-breakers".

A lovely portrait. The textures and patterns are wonderful. If it were mine, I'd select the giraffe, invert the selection, and the null down the highlights in the background sky.

Giraffes are difficult to photograph in my opinion. You managed a very nice pose here. Well done.
