I think a little more room on top and a head turn more to you would have improved this image. Still a fine pelican portrait. Seems a tad soft.

Without shooting data, it's hard to offer a helpful critique. For example, the head is pretty sharp, but as the eye travels down the bill it appears to get soft. Perhaps the bill was tilted slightly away from you, outside the sharp focus plane? Without seeing your f-stop, shutter speed and ISO, I can't tell if you were squeezed for light or might have used a narrower aperture...

I agree with Steve it it too tight at the top.

Yep, way too tight at the top. Providing shooting data would help provide a more meaningful critique.
