This feels a bit documentary to me. I like the natural feel that this has, but the composition doesn't seem to explore for additional possibilities.

This shows off the steaming action quite nicely, Catherine, along with some interesting sinter formations. The glint of sunlight through the steam is a neat addition. It does feel a bit static. I find myself wanting to move to the right so that the steam hides the trees in the ulc. A crop from the left to square (or nearly square) does much the same thing and while it loses the orange sinter, it keeps most of what I like best here, the steam, the turquoise, the glint, and the sinter on the right.

I agree with the above. It's possible to work this to better effect.

Catherine,
I wonder if a bit of Orton would make this pop a touch more and bring out the color a little better. I like the detail and the overall image.

Interesting idea, Pat. I'll give it a try.
I'm sorry but I'm unsure of what you're all trying to tell me… The action looks good but the image feels static… Could be worked to better effect… On site or in post-processing or both? Documentary-- yes, is that undesirable?
So, something is missing. I just don't understand yet what that "something" is…

Okay, tried a couple of things and wonder if there is any improvement?

Catherine,
I think the repost is a stronger image although I like both. I think this is a difficult subject to capture.
