This old unit was a real character. Not the prettiest specimen, but I bet he's got stories to tell! The light wasn't too shoddy either.

Captured somewhere between the Indian and Atlantic Oceans in Africa.

Techs:
Nikon D3s
Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
f8.0 | 1/400 SS | ISO-1600

Interesting to see the beat up horn. He does look like a senior citizen!

Lots of character recorded in this rhino image. The composition and lighting are ideal. A vertical shot would have been just as interesting with a rhino reflection :toast: .....................Jim

Wow! What a grizzled old gentleman! But, Morkel, why did you have to reveal where you shot this image? :jump:

Excellent image captured in light that shows every wrinkle, scratch and scar. You captured the character of the rhino well. Always nice to disclose precise location info as well.

Really pleasing image, Morkel, and as you say, lots of character in this old boy. The light is SA-WEEEET but I actually wonder if you could tweak this just a BIT further in post...I will say it looks phenomenal on my devices with screens that increase the contrast a bit, but on my primary monitor it seems just a little flat (and I mean little). Take that one with a heavy dose of salt, not just a grain, as your work is always pretty much as good as it gets...it just caught my eye and made me wonder a bit.

Comp is awesome, indifferent expression is classic, and the textures are wonderful. I cannot imagine losing this sweet, warm light, nor can I imagine you not having thought of this, but this does look like it could be quite intriguing (powerful) in B&W as well.

Thanks guys.
John - noted, will revisit the contrast, and perhaps a B&W too

Mario - from this position the reflection was impossible as there was not enough "water" visible even if I stood up. I've got some with reflection from when I moved to my left after this shot was taken.

I didn't know they made orange rhinos, Morkel!
This must be just at the crack of dawn or sunset. Wonderful color. He looks like a battle hardened old vet.
