This may be my favorite image from labor Day weekend on the north rim with a few other NPNers and AZ photographers. Soft light and subtle clouds greeted Saturday morning. Living in Flagstaff, I have the opportunity to visit the canyon often, but being on the rim that morning was one of the more pleasurable vistas to see unfold.

Nikon D600 Nikon 16-35mm @ 16mm, f/8, 1/2sec, ISO 100.
As always, suggestions and comments are welcome.

The cliffs pull me in, and then there's the clouds. Well-done composition.

Wonderful DOF with some terrific light. The curving line is very pleasing to the eye. The only downside in my opinion is the horizon seems to bisect the image pretty close to the midline in the frame. My brain seems to see it as two separate images, I certainly understand why you left a good portion of the sky in as it's special in it's own right. :toast:

Beautiful color Doug and I love the leading line in the composition. Everything works for me in this as posted.

Nice composition for sure, but absolutely wonderful glowing directional light. Good realistic balance between the sky and canyon.

Outstanding, Doug. I can tell that this is your home base. Familiarity with such an awesome location puts you right where you need to be for these wonderful conditions. I love everything about this image, no nits from me. :toast:

The sweeping foreground brings one right into the scene.
Great light and a very nice sky.
I can see a version with a tad more foreground and less sky but this almost half and half comp works well.

Love the light, and the curvature of the cliff Doug. I'm wondering how a vertical version would work. The large version is especially striking!

Just love the composition here with the ridge leading you into the scene.
Nice and subtle processing too, though a hint more midtone contrast wouldn't hurt

Hi Doug! The processing here is very realistic. I think it's perfect. I wish for a little more foreground, and certainly keep all of the sky. Excellent image as is.

Love the subtle colors in the sky here Doug and that fine arc of butte just catching some sun makes a great lead into the distance.

Thank you for the feedback. I do not have any more frame top or bottom to add unfortunately. At least in this image, the 50/50 split does not bother me. Morkel, I did try a little more local contrast at your suggestion and liked it.
