Ohh yeah, very nice. I love the ordered rows of the background trees. Great b/w subject.

It's a sleeper...the thumb does not begin to do it justice. Great shot.

Hi Vic,

Ah, the power of black and white, and all the shades of gray....this is starkly and strangely beautiful, like it could seduce you right in. To be honest, these type of orderly planted trees have always disturbed me and I have never understood what the point behind this type of forest is. They aren't christmas trees, not good for timber...is this for wildlife habitat? The backyard of a Freightliner truck repair depot? How did you ever spot this in the UP Vic? This is a graphicly powerful and compelling image that I cannot imagine having been photographed in color. I'm gonna disagree with Doug....I think the thumbnail is strong and intriguing also.

You have great vision to be able to pluck this scene out of the backyard of a truckstop.

Thanks for your comments everyone.

Mary, the stand of trees caught my eye while driving past the truck depot. LOL...I was almost an hour down the road before finally turning around to photograph it. The depot was at the edge of town. I think the young forest was part of a huge tree nursery at one time...much of it now cleared for fast food places, gas stations...and a truck depot.

Vic - Up on the hill behind our house as a child, we had a similar grove of planted pines. It must have been close to several hundred acres in size. For three boys, it was a paradise. The patterns allowed us to build forts with fallen trees stacked up against the standing ones. It was our refuge, our playground and a place where dreams and scars (boys will be boys) were formed. Even as we grew older we sought solitude there. I... well, had my first encounter there. This image takes me there again... and there is a slight welling in my eyes and for that I thank you.

I love the image, Vic. The graphic quality, the range of tones, the careful composition, but more than all that I love the fact that you thought about it for an hour before you turned around to go take the photo. It shows, and that's one of the things (the main thing?) that makes it so effective.
