Killdeer

There have been three to six Killdeer hanging out at the corner lot on our little road in the mornings and a couple of days ago, I decided to see if they would be cooperative. It was pretty foggy, so the more distant shots were very low contrast. However, I did get some fairly close shots and some levels adjustments did a fairly good job of defogging some of the others. I liked the pose in this one.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, beanbag in car window (I think. Some were handheld, and I'm not sure which were which.) f8, 1/500, iso 500, pattern metering, aperture priority. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 13.9MP from the original 16.

Your comments are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Everything seems to be working here: Nice head turn, good feather detail and handling of the whites. Good background. :toast:

Fine look at this little one, Dennis. Lots of good detail and complementary colors in the background.

I like this as posted. But I'd like to see more of the fog shots without hosted contrast - I like working in fog and see no reason to try to eliminate the fog effect.

Dennis I like the low pov of this shot. The color palette is very pleasing, great comp too. The killdeer is pretty sharp. Nice job!

Hi Dennis,

No nits here. Light background helps to reveal the killdeer. :toast: .............................Jim

Excellent comp, nice detail and pose, Dennis (good head turn and eye contact). Looks like the weather conditions were in your favor. If there's room on the RAW, I would consider a hair more room RHS.

Very nice detail and sharpness Dennis, the only thing that could have improved this would be an even lower angle. :toast:

nice framing on this one Dennis. I sort of agree with Richard about leaving the fog in the shot. I think it adds to the story.
