American Bittern - Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center
Port Aransas, TX 02-10-2014

EOS 7D 400 L f/5.6 1/400 ISO 800

Very camouflaged. Bird was 20 feet away and several people could not see him when he was moving. Large as a chicken.

A classically difficult bird to find in the open; well done. I wonder if the composition would be stronger if you took some of the space at the bottom and used it show more of the bird's back? More of a head turn would be good, but Bitterns have the annoying habit of holding a pose like this for minutes at a time. Very good exposure and sharpness. Overall, a nice shot.

Excellent detail and some very nice light, gk. I like the focused look of the Bittern.
