Fox Kit with Prize

Hi Everyone!

This is a different fox kit than the last one I posted...this kit is from a different den where all the kits were a little older.

I took this picture right after the mom came back with a mouse or two and this hunk of fur. We never could figure out exactly what this is, but this guy sure had fun with it! He was throwing it in the air and pouncing on it and then trotted by us proudly holding it for his siblings to see.

I hope you like it! Thank you for looking!

This is pretty cool, Josiah. I guess that young foxes act like cats insofar as "playing" with their prey.

Hi Josiah,

Cute shot! Good job on capturing the kit in such a "clean" (distraction-free) setting. One of my dogs does exactly what you're describing whenever he finds a piece of fur or a bone (we call it the "bone-dance") out in the woods.

Keep up the great work!

Cheers...

Man, Josiah...you sure got a great picture here! I love his upraised head proudly carrying his prize, and the front leg coming forward. You hit the focus perfectly, too, did a great job with the composition, and the techs looked solid when I processed this. Switching to a higher ISO and resulting shutter speed might have given just a bit more details in the leg and body, but the face is what matters most and it looks great. Still trying to figure out what he was carrying!

Love this Josiah. Good clean image, great colors, the shot has interest with the fur and good position in the frame. The only suggestion I would have is a bit more DOF. Looks like you were at ISO 200. While I am a Canon shooter and am not familiar with Nikon, I am not sure how much you can push the ISO on the D7100, but form what I have seen from others who shoot Nikon, my guess is anything up through ISO 800 would produce more than acceptable results. This would have allowed you to stop down to f/8 to get more of the body in focus. Still...terrific image and you just keep getting better and better. Hope you plan on entering several contests this year.
