Sonora Pass Juniper #2 + rp

Western Juniper, near Sonora Pass. I am always amazed at the variety of textures and color present in these old, weathered trees.

This image was made the same weekend when I first met Lon in person after meeting here on NPN. We had a great time wandering around, and I was very happy to show him my favorite haunts in this very special place.

So, Lon, if you see this: Here's a toast to our long friendship! :toast:

Please see the large version. Thanks!

Your critiques are always appreciated.

Beautiful color Preston and I particularly like the sheen on the wood. Looks like it's coated with a thin layer of silk. Very nice.

Very nice light Preston, it really enhanced the colors beautifully, I also like the rough texture of the wood with all the little nooks and crannies. You have a good eye for this Preston, definitely like it alot. Hope Lon is doing well.

This looks like a close relative of your previous tree view, Preston. Love all of the sinuous lines and the warm colors. Seems like there's a touch of pink in the lighter areas especially towards the bottom right, is that real or part of the film to digital conversion challenge?

Superb, one of your best close up abstracts for me.
I love the texture, color and I can smell the juniper.....

A great abstract - love the shapes. It does seem overly saturated though. The colors just don't seem natural. A B&W would look good too, I think.

Thanks for your comments everyone. They are appreciated.

After reading Mark's comment about the pinkish color, and Mark Z's comment about over-all saturation, I tweaked the image.

What say you?

The large version of the re-work is here.

Thanks again for your comments!

Very cool intimate scene, Preston. The lines, textures and colors work beautifully together. I think you nailed it with the repost.

Preston, I think the repost looks much more natural. I'm just starting to see (at least sometimes) such subtle color shifts....in reworking my Late Summer Quiet post, I'm thinking that a touch too much magenta is part of the problem.

Wonderful colors and textures in the repost Preston. You're the master of these wood intimates. Very well done abstract indeed.
