Fox Portrait

Hi Everyone! This is the same fox as the one that is taking a nap in my dad's picture. This is actually from a different time that she came over and sat by us. She was looking out towards the mountains when she suddenly looked back in our direction and I got this picture.

I really like how she is looking at me here.

Nikon D7100
Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4 IF-ED with TC-14EII
ISO 720
1/1250sec @ f/7.1
monopod

Dad's Processing Notes:
Converted from RAW using Phase One Capture One Pro 7 with adjustments to colour balance, levels and curves
Minor adjustments to tones and contrast using Nik Color Efex Pro 4 and Viveza 2 in PS5
Cloned out single OOF leafy shrub branch from bottom left that had barely intruded into frame
Cropped to 90% of original

Hi Josiah, this is really beautiful. I like the stare and the tones. You know a lot about post processing. I am still just learning Photoshop and I don't think I could ever do all the things you listed on your image, that's amazing and good for you.

Great job, Ashleigh

Hi Ashleigh and thank you! I'm only 9 so my dad does all my processing still, but I sit by him and he explains everything he does and why, and asks me to make decisions as he does everything. I think it's pretty cool the way you can make the picture look more like it did when the animal was right in front of you in real life.

Beautifully caught, Josiah. Your Dad may do the processing, but it was your eye and lens that caught this. Don't ever forget that all the processing in the world can't make a sorry picture better! :toast:

You did a nice job with her, Josiah. Given that the over-all shape of her body in the frame is more vertical than horizontal, how do you think this would look framed vertically?

Hello Josiah

Well done. Love these little guys, they have so much personality. I think this portrays its personality quite well here!

Love the lazy look and the soft feel of the fur and the colour tones, Josiah!
Another vote for the vertical crop?

Hi Josiah! Man, did you nail this shot! You were perfectly set up on her for when she gave you this great look, and nailed the focus and settings when she did. I agree with the others on a vertical comp looking really nice with this, but also happen to know you have several portraits you did switch to a vertical format on, so I like this one as you shot it. Definitely one of your best wildlife images in my opinion! Keep up the great work!
