A trip to one of the boreal forest management areas offered this Black-backed Woodpecker, whom I've been looking for now going on four years. A life bird as well.

Congrats on the lifer and good on ya! Not only did you get a sighting and a picture, but it's a pretty solid shot to boot. I really like the woodpecker's pose, sharpness and detail, and I love that you can see his handiwork on the trunk he is grasping. I for one really enjoy the background colours and contrast as well...it has a wonderful quality to it.

I did notice the details on the trunk seem softer at both the top and bottom than the middle section.

Although I've seen them, I have yet to get a decent capture and woodpeckers are easily one of my favourite families in the avian world, so I am jealous to say the least.

Hi Chuck,

A good bird to nab with the camera. One of the few shots that I have seen that shows the 3 toed foot. :wavey: .....................Jim
