Genet at NIght

22Nov2011, 9:25PM at Mankwe Wildlife Reserve, Northwest Province of South Africa. This photo was taken some distance away, and required a considerable crop, so it was not possible to coax further detail out of the pelage. I was happy that the leafless shrub wasn't lightened by the flash. Although I have looked for wildlife day and night on several visits to southern and eastern Africa, I have never before seen this species. I used a spotlight to focus on the animal.

Good image of this nocturnal creature. I like that most of the genet is not blocked by branches. The larger image does show the large crop, not much you could do about it. Thanks for sharing.

All things considered, this came out very well. It's such a difficult species to get photos of, and you nailed a nice clear view of it. Well done, Ronald.

Hi Ron,

I share Max's feelings - all things considered...not a half-bad documentary shot of a genet!

Cheers...
