This image was taken a few years ago in southern NJ. This is from slide film. Any and all comments welcome. Chet

Very handsome GBH. The cut off reflection is a bit of a distraction, but not too much. Well done.

A beautiful image, Chet. I like the effect created by the oof foreground reeds in this one.

Hi Chet! I was working down the page from most recent to older posts and when I commented on your vertical GBH image I had not picked up it was a scan from a slide...that would explain the difficulty in retaining detail in the highlights, along with the "noise" issues others had mentioned.
I agree with both Jerry and Dennis on this one. I really like the image, and personally find the OOF foreground vegetation a pleasing addition...but am slightly bothered by the partial reflection. I know I always get a few initial frames of wading birds with reflections and then wonder what the best comp is...what seems like a bonus often becomes a bit of a challenge in finding the right comp. In this case, it's the contrast of the dark reflected underside of the heron against the very bright surface of the water that makes it more of a difficult element, but it doesn't depreciate the image significantly IMO.
My favourite aspect of this image, without question, is the beautiful tones and textures you captured on the body and neck of the heron. I'd be very pleased to have this picture in my collection. I would, however, crop out the dark OOF bit in the bottom left corner, even though that crowds the heron's tail a bit.
