The air temp was 37 degrees, but the red light from the flare made a warmer appearance.
I wanted to show the relative size of this large snow cave. And my friend Frank Hill obliged by standing in the arched hallway.

That is really a cool combo. The thumbnail had me confused. A very surreal image. Nicely visualized and captured.

This has an eerie feel to me Ken and I like that a lot. Combined with the light and a little claustrophobia I don't think I would enjoy being there. I like open space. Your processing of the water to match the ice is particularly impressive to me. This is a very striking image.

Hey Ken,
What a very nice mood and great detail this image portrays, that light from the flare works really well with the natural light and/or flash to create a lot of interest throughout the entire composition. To further elaborate on Pat's concerns, the fact that it is above freezing, Frank is in short sleeves, and there is running water from melting ice adds to the adrenaline rush of exploring such a cool location. You guys be careful, remember, 'Slippery When Wet'. Man !

"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan/ A stately pleasure-dome decree:/ Where Alph, the sacred river, ran/ Through caverns measureless to man/ Down to a sunless sea." Looks like an opium dream. Love it!

Amazing effect Ken. Definitely not a place for the claustrophobic.

Beautiful shot, very nice effect. The red color gave a different dimension to the environment.

Oh, man--there is s much potential here, such an awesome comp! But to be honest, the HDR spoils it for me, it reminds me of all the things I dislike about HDR. But don't let that dissuade you, some people obviously love that style. If it were me, Id do all I could to maintain a strong light from the flare--it should radiate IMO--here it just looks like a flower or something. This would be brutally hard to accomplish, cause any brighter and the person would be washed out--but IMO it would be better to err on the high contrast side, cause that's how it would look to your eye--you would have all your senses overwhelmed by the flare (presumably there's no other light source??) Cool shot regardless!

Wow, very cool (literally, I'm sure, as well) shot that must have been challenging to take. For those of us who have never been in one of these snow caves, this really gives us a good idea of what it's like. Love the blue and red colors, the sense of proportion, and the lit-up stream.
