D300 200-400mm with 1.7 TC @640mm F6.7 1/500 ISO 200 Tripod

It would have been nice if the guy on the left were looking the other way, but I consider myself lucky that the three of them were just standing in the same plane, resulting in all three being pretty much in focus.

At this time there are fewer them 400 of these whooping cranes surviving in the wild.

Sweet, Bob. Wonderful to get these at all. Are these from last winter/spring in Texas or do you have a secret stash somewhere? The image quality here is really nice and the eyes pop very well in the larger version. The shadows look just the least bit blue to my eye-you might try warming the image just a trifle and see if you like the results.

Wonderful shot and they look like the ghosts of the forest!
A little curve adjustment and warming the colors a tad would improve this one IMHO.

I hope to even just see one of these some day, so great job finding three to fill the frame with Bob. If mine, I might bring up the shadows and the blacks a bit.
