Folks,

Here is one more of the same spider seven days later. It had no prey though. Worked on a shallow dof .and a off center comp. As of Sunday the spider had vanished. It had wrapped up some food, thats what you find in the right bottom corner.

Very interesting, Balan. We have a quite similar species, the black & yellow argiope, in my part of the world, but they only have a single vertical "zig zag ladder" pattern in the web. I shot one this morning and will post it later in the week.

You've got excellent details and sharpness in the spider and her web, Balan. The comp works well, especially the bit of prey in the lrc. I do wish that the bright area behind/below her wasn't so bright, but to move that you'd lose dof on the spider and her web.

Interesting shot Balan, my favorite aspect is probably the grass in the background bokeh on the right side. I don't know if you have a longer lens, but I've taken to shooting some macro bokeh shots at about 400mm or more, and the circles are usually large enough that the entire subject fits inside them, which can be interesting. Just a thought, but great shot.

Balan - Love that painterly background, composition and the zig zag pattern. As mentioned the bright area could be toned down a bit more, perhaps through some clever processing.

Another top-notch spider shot, Balan. I like the capture of the web and the bokeh in the bg. I also really like the wrapped up meal in the LRC. Adds a touch of sinister to the image. Mark and Ram have already commented on the brightness below the spider, which is my only nit. :toast:

Balan,

I like the fact that you were able to tackle this image with difficult lighting. I also like how you were able to show those thickened portions of the web. I agree with Thomas about using a longer lens to spotlight the spider......................Jim

I like the 'mysterious' and slightly 'spooky' BG, it makes the shot special Balan.
Great comp that includes the hapless prey BRC as well :toast:

The composition is one of the chief delights here, Balan, but I am also really taken by the light effects behind the spider. This is a very fine image indeed !!!!

Balan, I like the mysterious mood in this image. The grass in the background, the prey in the lower right corner and the spotlight heighten a dangerous predator. Excellent capture.
