Momma Doe

I found this doe at the local Nature Center just after a rain shower. It was overcast, which made for some soft light. The deer's hair is still a bit wet, which added some texture. You can tell from this angle that she has at least one fawn, although I didn't see him (her). I just liked the overall "feel" of this image.

Processed using Photoshop CS3, NeatImage and LightZone. Comments and critiques welcome.

I agree that the lighting adds a nice sense of gentleness to this image, Jerry. Her pose shows significant alertness, but she hasn't focused on you (yet??). A fine show of deer behavior in a pleasant setting.

Hey Jerry,

I very much like how you've isolated the deer from the background but have the most critical aspects of the foreground in focus. Effective use of DoF. For what it's worth - I used f6.3 on my Nikon 200-400 very frequently with the "normal" working distances I encountered wildlife with when shooting that lens. Good head turn too!

Cheers...

A nice image of her stepping out into the trail here Jerry, if you have a little more room on the bottom I would include it as it feels just a touch tight there to me. :toast:
