WC#643 - wetlands

These are the California wetlands the last several years. Normally, in January, when this was taken, the areas behind the sign would be FULL of water and there would be many thousands of geese, ducks, moorhens, pelicans, trumpeter swans, cranes - and hawks in all the trees watching and waiting. There are similar "wetlands" throughout the state - this is a major one north of Sacramento.
We are in the worst drought in 500 yrs, and even the prospect of a light El Nino this winter will do very little to help.

Here is more, if anyone is interested to learn more:

Not much wet here, for well publicized reasons. This would also fit in EPJ.

Tough to see. Here in GA, most of the state is receiving plenty of rainfall, with the exception of some areas of North GA that are abnormally dry. Lake levels are at or near full pool. Rivers are mostly full, but no imminent flooding. :frown:

Wow, Sandy, what a shame! Doesn't even look like the vernal pools we have here in New England in the Spring. They are mostly dried up at this point, but you can still see the remaining mud and evidence of past water. Looking at your photo one would never suspect it was once a wetland. Nicely documented.
