Tai-Chi Vesper

We stopped at the National bison Range on our way to Yellowstone and the Vesper Sparrows were there in force. Toward the end of our circuit we ran into a couple of cooperative ones. I think this is a female, but only because the males seemed to be singing constantly and we watched this one for quite some time without it doing so. This pose was actually in preparation for a good chin scratch, though why it swung its leg to the rear first, I don't know.

7D, 300mm f4 + 1.4TC, hand held, f8, 1/1250, iso 400, +1/3 stop compensation, aperture priority & pattern metering. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 12MP of the original 18.

Funny pose for sure - I wish that both eyes could be seen as it makes this bird look quite odd!

A nice clean look at this sparrow out in the open, the tai-chi adds interest.
