This is a parasitized noctuid moth larva (Simyra henrici)that I found near our pond. The braconid wasps will emerge shortly from the caterpillar. Pentax k5 IIs, Sigma 180mm f3.5, 1/60 sec at f11, ISO 400, Levels, Topaz Detail.............................Jim

Interesting, Jim. Nice look at the unfortunate caterpillar against the clean bg. I like the diagonal comp and excellent detail. :toast:

Great details in the caterpillar, Jim. How do you know it's been parasitized?

Hi Mark,

Parasitized individuals are dull in color and quiescent. They also die attached to a plant stem which facilitates the emergence of the small wasps from the caterpillar...........................Jim
