This was my first decent shot of a Red-tailed hawk, which are fairly common around here. This one happened to perch high in a tree in my backyard a few years ago, so I had only to run upstairs, open a window and shoot, as he posed for about 10 minutes. He was banded too. I added a tripod after I had grabbed a few, but this one was HH.
Powershot SX30, fixed zoom lens at 878mm equivalent, ISO 80, f/5.8, 1/400, matrix metering with AWB. In PSE I toned down the highlights, auto-sharpened, and cropped original about 75%. Comments and suggestions always welcome and thanks for viewing.

Nice that the hawk was so cooperative, Jim. Also nice that you take this from an upstairs window.

Great catch with your P&S handheld, held up well in spite of the 75% crop Jim.
Good details, colors, and framing, it's always one for the record books when you pull down your first decent shot of a species :toast:

This is a fine look at this handsome hawk, Jim. Interesting that it didn't get perturbed by you opening the window...the time's I've had that opportunity, the hawk took off almost immediately due to the window opening (even when opened very slowly).

Nice shot, Jim, especially for hh right from your window. Best I've ever gotten from our upstairs window is a robin!
