Monarch Wannabe

by Jerry Austin

I encountered this rag horn bull along the Madison River in Yellowstone last September. He was rolling in the mud and bugling in an attempt to show how tough he was. The only problem was that there was a true monarch in the same area. Maybe next year little guy.

Processed in Photoshop CS3, LightZone and NeatImage. Comments and critiques welcome.

Sweet Jerry,
This composition has a nice balance to it, great colors, BG and a wonderful pose from your subject.
Well done . . . :toast:

Hey Jerry,

Nice pose, nice "almost-majestic" subject  , and a very nice overall composition with an appropriate DoF in foreground and background - well done. While I won't say the OOF aspens above/behind the elk are a distraction, I will say if the background directly behind the elk was similar to that in the upper left corner, then I think the shot would be even stronger!

Cheers...

Hello Jerry

Good to see him bugling! because of being number 2 , maybe needs to try harder!

Good sharp clean image. the background vertical trees are somewhat distracting though

Nice pose and setting here Jerry. I'd be tempted to burn the white trees behind him some?

Nice pose and composition. In an ideal world the background would be very uniform. But since the image was taken in the wild things are not all uniform. The background doesn't bother me a lot.

Nice pose and head turn, Jerry. Maybe a few more seasons than just one for this guy.
