The Queen (female)

by Howard Cheek

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted June 27, 2014124 views6 comments
The Queen Butterfly resembles its close relative the Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) in various ways, but is smaller and the ground color of the wings is a darker..
F/10, 1/320th, ISO 640, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 & fill flash using a monopod for support.
Have a great weekend! :wavey:

Howard--I like this one. The eye color pattern is captured perfectly. Also, the in-focus portions of the zinnia frame the butterfly too :toast: ..............JIm

A nice Queen photo. My guess is fairly young; the wings are fresh looking with no tearing. We get both Monarchs and Queens here. If you hadn't of posted fill flash, I wouldn't have known it. Good work! :toast:

Top notch BF image, Howard. I like being able to see into the center of the flower, and the BF is angled perfectly to see its head, working proboscis, and antennae, and its beautiful wings. :toast:

Especially like the larger image, Howard. The colors in the flower in particular are awesome.

She's a real beauty, Howard and that lovely pink flower shows her off really well. Excellent shot.
