A tree bumblebee feeding on some geraniums. I rather liked the echo of the bee's wings in the veins of the petals.

Canon 7D, Tamron 55-200mm lens @ 135mm, 1/250 sec @ f 6.3, ISO 400, hh.

Another attractive macro using your geranium flowers Ian
Nice colors & comp, like this 'revealing' POV of your subject as well :toast:

I like the colours and the pattern on the flowers a lot.
I would prefer that the flower was not cut.

Yes the echo of patterns is really working but the composition is just making me want more (in a way) maybe an horizontal orientation wud have worked (so as in not to cut the second flower)
Hope the blooms are still there for you to work on :wavey:

Very nice, Ian. I like the saturated colors, the way the flowers and bee stand out from the nice bg, and the position of the be in the frame. The way the veins in the wings and flower petals match is great. Nits: I tend to agree about the flower on the right feeling cut off, but, on the other hand, as noted previously, I like the position of the bee in the frame. Also, the bee could be sharper, as evident in the larger image. I'd suggest a higher ss if you are trying to hh a tele (or tele zoom) and shooting moving subjects like bees on flowers. You are at risk of combined camera and subject movement, even at 1/250. You may need to boost your iso, of course. This image looks free of noise, so I think you could have increased the iso. :wavey:

Thanks everyone for the comments. I attach my original crop for posting - I cropped further to give the bee more prominence but this might be preferable. Scott : thanks for the comment on the sharpness - I have increased this a bit ( hopefully without too much noise ) in this version but I do take your point about the ss being key for the best results. I intend where possible in future to use a tripod which I guess is another answer ( if the little blighters will play ball !! )

Ian, nice colors as usual. I too like the echo of patterns. The vertical composition works for me. I agree with Daniel & Loana about the clipped flower (written just before the repost, which is a nice improvement).

I think I prefer the repost comp better than the original, Ian, but it's close. Now that I have seen the original, what about going back to the vertical crop but cropping the left side near the flower edge (i.e., cropping some off the left) and including more of the right flower?

Scott : I won't burden people with another repost, but I do think your last suggestion re the crop is the answer. Have tried it and it looks the best of the three.

Thank you !!

After reading all the comments, I like both the original and the repost about equally. To me, the only weak point in all this loveliness is the softness of the bee.
