General Custer

A guy I see often has been begging me to go see him "in action" some weekend, and take some photos. He's a Civil War "re-enactor." I finally decided to give it a shot last weekend. I grabbed my Chamonix 4x5, a pack full of Efke 25 film, and one of my pre-Civil War lenses--a c.1845 Ross Petzval. Off to Fort Sisseton, SD I went! The lens is f2.8 so I had to use about six stops of ND to slow exposures down to 1/2 to 1 sec., since the lens has no shutter. (Used my hand over the lens.) The guy running around dressed like General Custer was a lot of fun, and graciously posed for me.

This Civil War reenactor sure looks the part Kent.
And with the use of the petzval, you have yourself a time machine there..
I like it.
