Water Lily

Taken at local Soos Creek Botanical Garden on Friday after some light rains.

Nikon D800e with Nikon 70-200 mm at 200. Had two feet of the tripod in the water pond and me trying to look through live-view to get this framed correctly. Gadz…glad I didn’t get tripped up and bring the tripod, camera and me down into the ‘drink’.

Yeah, I hope the big black border is not too wide and distracting for this posting. It is my preference and really does look good on a bigger size…. 2000 pixel on one side posting…

post script: Thanks to all for comments. Scott the LRC was a curled lily pad submerged…It was more obvious along with the submerged stem of the lily flower…and I darkened the area so it would not distract, probably could have gone darker. Lily pads are nice and green on top…and veiny dark deep red on the underbelly.

Ken: Beautiful subject and a fine result. I don't use live view very much but there are occasions when it does indeed come in handy. Two thumbs up! >=))>

I knew it was your Ken. The photo has your signature even in the thumbnail. Perfect work as usual.
Take care.

Ken -Stunning and worth the circus you had to do. The border is not a problem. Usually what is a problem is the lack of that 1 pixel white outline.

Gorgeous water lily image, Ken. The flower is a thing of beauty, especially draped in water drops the way it is. I like the border as well. I am curious about the purple LRC, and how the bg goes from black to purple. I assume this is some sort of reflection in the water?

The overhead shot was certainly worth the trouble, Ken. I am especially fond of the very pale magenta in the petals. No real nits, except make sure your insurance is paid up!

I do not mind the black border as the flower with the water drops really draws me into the image. I go back and forth on the green/purple colors in opposite corners but still a wonderful image.

Superb composition and presentation, Ken ! The pad looms like a dark moon behind the flower - a most evocative image !!!
