D300 18-200mm @52mm ISO 160 F9 1/400 handheld
Taken on the Ediz Hook in Washington against a grey fog bank BG, the curved grey log and rounded grey stones drew me in and the gull just happened to be there.

It's a natural looking scene to me Bob and I like the mood of it. There's just enough ripple in the water to show me it's there and I like that and the grass is nice contrast to the grays. The gull looks suitably sharp to me and the logs draw me into the scene. I guess ideally, the gull wouldn't have been centered in the frame for my tastes, even though it's not an avian image. That's probably just me though. I like the image.

Nice image Bob. I really like how the main log leads the eye back to the gull. I might try playing around with some different crops so the bird isn't dead center in the frame. With the bird in the center of the frame, my eye stops there and doesn't explore the rest of the details of the bird's environment.

Nice tones and colors in this Bob. I agree about moving the bird off center but nicely done as is.

The arching log and it's roots are very interesting and the gull makes a fine bit of additional interest. I agree that the quiet, gentle mood is great. I too would like to have the gull off center...maybe if you could have taken a few steps to your left without scaring the gull (easier said than done, of course).
