This is an older home in Columbia that was for many years a private residence. It was later sold to the state of California. The house has been used for several films, the most famous of which was 'High Noon'

Great story behind the image, fine job on this Preston.
High Noon was made just one year before I was born, one of my favorite western classics :toast:

A nice look at this old house, Preston. Can't say I recall seeing it in any movies, and as for the excellent movie High Noon I've not taken in that show in many years now. I do recall you saying Guns of Paradise or Paradise the tv series being filmed in and around Columbia, but I think that was actually a set outside of town.

Regardless, an interesting and wonderful old house making a fine subject for this category. The autumn colored leaves across the walkway adds a nice feel to the atmosphere of the scene....

Thanks for your comments!

Paul, Columbia has been used for quite a few movies and TV series over the years. Paradise, Little House on the Prairie, Shadow Riders, Blood Red, and others. The production crews would actually put a layer of dirt on the paved streets to make them look 'Old West'.

I was a location medic (EMT) on Blood Red, and a few commercials that were shot in town. It was always fun, and the food was great, aside from visiting with the stars during Blood Red, including a young Julia Roberts and Dennis Hopper, during breaks.

Aside from some low-budget Indie shorts and a few commercials, Columbia hasn't seen a big production in a long time--CA is just too darned expensive for the studios these days. Productions were always a great boost to the local economy.

I wish!!! :jump:

Paul, most, if not all the movies I mentioned were filmed in various locations within the county. Back To The Future 3 had a huge set (an entire town) west of Sonora, but a few scenes were filmed in Columbia in one of the saloons. That set was a victim of a wildland fire in the mid 90's.

Thanks for your comments, all.
