Smoke on the waterRepost

This image is actually a repost of my last post in this forum. Triggered by your feedback I cropped it a bit more to get rid of the sky completely and I got back some more detail in the shadows. Do you think it improved?

I like the edit better Elle, it showcases the lighting. Maybe consider toning down the far left and right reflection bright areas even more. Maybe consider a pano crop as a further option.

I just viewed the first Ellen and I think the repost is a much stronger image. I might still consider pulling up the shadows on the upper right side above the mist a bit but just a nit.

My first thought when I saw this was a spiral galaxy or the specifically the milky way. It's a very neat image and I also like the mood of it.

I like the repost much better, Ellen. This is such a mysterious image, I kinda like that the shadows are dark. Nice that you happened along at such an opportune time.

While I didn't get a chance to comment on the previous version I do remember it. Your repost is a significant improvement. I'm glad that you didn't go overboard in recovering shadow detail because there is just the right amount of detail to hold my interest, but the deep shadows not only provide balance to the bright highlights but also help direct the viewers' attention to the mist. I also think the 50/50 comp works here as there is equal interest above and below the mist. It's neat to see this image come to life for you!! :toast:

Very nice re-work of this one, Ellen. You could try to bring up more shadow detail, but I'm afraid it would just look crunchy. As Harry mentioned, burning down the bright areas of the water on left (in particular) and on the right would give this more zing. I like the ripples and the framing curve they form, so not sure about a pano crop.

You did well with the challenging light!
