Spent last week putzing around southern Colorado and northern New Mexico, had a fabulous time. I photographed this guy at Monte Vista NWR. A magical morning as my wife and I had the refuge all to ourselves. Only a slight crop and minor tweaks in Color Efex Pro4 with some selective sharpening in PP CC.

Nice one John. Love that background. Other than trying to coax a few more details from those blacks, I wouldn't do anything. Well done.

Outstanding pose, John, and a wonderful composition. I'm a bit surprised that there isn't more detail in the yellow, as the feet and beak are nice and sharp.

John,
Great shot of a wonderfully colorful bird. I particularly like the foliage and sticks where he stands. Is a little bit of the right side of his face in shadow? It looks a little dark to me. Suggest a little selective dodging, or perhaps the shadow slider in Lightroom. :wavey:

BG and pose are wonderful! I would work on this a little to see if you can pull some more detail out of the yellows and blacks. Would love to see one of these someday! Sharon

Wonderful mood projected by this image John,
It has a wind blown, lonesome prairie feel to it that is unmistakable and quite lovely. The lighting, BG, bending grasses, and the subject's pose as he stares off into the distance all contribute nicely to the composition.
