Hi,
My wife and I recently spent a week in Victoria BC for a little get away, what a beautiful place, it offers lots of outdoor activities and beautiful scenery to enjoy. This photo was taken in Beacon Hill Park.

Updated with Techs:
Canon 7D, 1/640sec, f8, ISO160, Lens EF 400mm f5.6L USM + 1.4x Focal length 560mm, Aperture priority, 9:08am
small crop little off the bottom and left side.

Thank you for viewing
Guy Nelson

A great profile of this Heron, that black BG really sets it off. Nice light. You didn't post a large version which is always key for critiquing. For the size posted the head looks pretty sharp but the breast looks like it could use a little selective sharpening.

Hi Guy,
To my eye this photo looks especially dark. I think that you need to try to get some detail out of the shadows. I took a look at your gallery and I think that overall you are leaning toward darker exposures. With a bird such as this Heron, the black background isn't all that appealing, rather a smooth, even.. but colorful background would be best. Also, if you post your techs for the shot it would be easier for us to make suggestions. :toast:

Nice pose from the Heron and I like the PNW habitat, Guy. Detail looks pretty good in the size you posted it at.

A good shot. Always good to be reminded that Great Blues don't object to roosting in evergreens. I also agree with Charlie that you should try to pull some of the detail out of the shadows. I don't object to the dark tone; that's the temperate rain forest. But you've lost a lot of the bird.
