Mexican Hats

I've tried this past week to incorporate the Mexican Hat wildflowers in some backgrounds. I have the Mexican Hats in two forms. One's all yellow, and another a burgundy/yellow combination.
F/5.6, 1/250th, ISO 800, 1D M3, 300mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext and mostly cloudy. Not as originally sharp as i would like, and a significant crop as well. But I do like the yellow/red color combo.

Very nice image of this guy looking right at the camera. I like his alert expression. I think the Mexican Hats work well as a bg. They show the environment but are OOF enough not to be distracting.

I agree, too, that it looks better brightened up a bit. Your repost is good. I really like the dotted yellow bg in this. Sharon

A lovely bg, Howard, reminds me of the color of my wife's California poppies. Nice pose from the cardinal and a very rich red to go with the bg.
