Southern Magnolia

The Magnolia Trees are in full bloom all around town. Huge gorgeous flowers. I saw some that were almost a foot across. This one is not that big. I like the fact that the flowers and the branches don't sway much in the wind making them good photography subjects.

Nikon D800 1 sec @ f/22 ISO 100 Natural Light
Cropped to 16x9 format.

Thanks for taking a look and for your comments.

Great contrast from the bloom to the BG Sanjay. I like the crop. Nice handling of the whites too. Very pretty.

Great lighting. The dark leaves with the white flower makes a stunning image. My only nit is that I would have cloned out the white bud left of the flower. I find this a little distracting. :wavey:

Sanjay - Like it as presented. Must be a sweet smelling flower. Love the soft light which makes this very appealing.

Beautiful, Sanjay. The semi-pano crop and the position of the flower and leaves is perfect. The white bud doesn't bother me at all. Good as is.

Ram, sorry to disappoint, but Magnolia blossoms have no odor, other than a general vegetative odor.

Thanks for your comments everyone.

Ram and Phil - Aroma Update:

Actually, the Southern Magnolia is very fragrant. The flowers have a citronella / vanilla like fragrance and can't be missed while walking past a tree in full bloom. I can confirm that the Southern Magnolia (Grandiflora) and the Sweet Bay Magnolia have sweet smelling flowers, but not sure of the other types of Magnolia.

Must be that Texas air or my sinuses. I get no odor from those here. Or maybe I just have gotten used to them, being around them for the last 60 years.
