'Shy Geyser'

I add this image to Man and Nature because this geyser is actually man made, accidentally made when the owners of the land were drilling for water back in the 60's or 70's. They tapped into a geothermal water source so tried to cap it off, however, they didn't cap it correctly and for the last few decades it's been leaking minerals and building up a higher and higher 'jello mold'.

The geyser appears to be caving in on itself, the far side has some serious damage and the geyser doesn't squirt like it used to. Still it makes a beautifully colorful image.

It has been a long while since I saw this geyser in a photo. It is eerie and a pile-driver for the eyes of colors and shape… whispy steams just add more …great job composing. Your gallery reflects patience for the right light, clouds, and awesome comps.

Superb shot! Those colors are stunning, and you pulled it of nicely with pretty harsh lighting conditions. Thanks also for the background, I've seen pics of this geyser before, but never knew the background behind it.

The colors are very dramatic and I like how you've created a layered effect with the green ledge crossing the foreground. You also caught a lovely sky. As a very minor nit, I wonder how this would look if you had taken a step or two back (or a slightly wider angle lens) to get the whole spray in up top.

Spectacular colors Andrew. Looks alien in a way but I guess your description explains why. Thanks for sharing. Your image really shows the major impact we have on our environment and how we change the natural scenery. our image might be a good candidate for Environmental Journalism Gallery as well.

Facinating shot! Ive never seen one of 'fly' with that fg stuff in there.
FWIW I personally would have no problem with this as landscape as opposed to M&N, otherwise every reservoir shot would be disqualified as well.
