Bison Spring

There are numerous large bison herds in Yellowstone, but in many instances it looks like a hundred black dots on a distant hillside. In this case the leaders of the herd grazed their way up to me across a landscape that was as green as I'd ever seen. The closeness of the leaders let you see who it is, but includes enough critters in the distance to fit my interpretation of this theme. (5D3, 70-200 f2.8 @ 74 mm, 1/160s, f/11, iso 200, tripod)

Oh yeah, and I've got the Roger Miller song "you can't rollerskate in a buffalo herd" stuck in my head.

It seems that I managed to reset the pixel size so there's no larger version on NPN. If you want to see a larger version press the purchase print link.

Nice comp of these interesting elements, Mark. I like the way you utilized the gray grasses to provide a frame in the foreground, and the great view of the hills and mountains in the background, enhanced by just a bit of sky. The foreground bison catch the viewers' interest and the scattered bison help lead the viewers' eye through the image.

Ok, now you've got that song running through MY head!

Very nice. Don't know if you've processed it much, but to me, gives me a feeling of a shot with 35mm film. I like it. Colors, etc are nice. I really like the composition and layers of subject matter. My eye moves easily from FG to BG.

Only wish is that you had a little more dramatic sky above the mountains. But whatcha gonna do......

Overall, really beautiful shot.
