Chinese Dogwood

The branches of a young Chinese dogwood were dangling merrily in the breeze when I caught a shaft of sunlight on this flower. I thought about cloning the oof branches but decided not to in the end, as they seemed to help catch the character of the tree.

Superb comp, beautiful light, great presence and striking use of tenebrism to add the perception of depth to the image and to isolate the flower. Whites are perfect on my screen. There is so much exceptional floral photography in this gallery but I think this is on a par with any of it - a masterpiece for my tastes. Love the mood you've created as well.

Lighting and composition are very nice. My only concern is the light colored leaf in the upper right corner. For me it is distracting. I would have cloned it out, leaving the eye going directly to the beautiful flower :wavey:

Ian - Great dappled lighting that is well handled considering the whites being shot. The darkish background works in favour of the shot here.

I find the foliage aiding the composition overall.
