This is another shot from my Lion fight sighting in Hwange National Park. By this time they had moved to the right away from the majority of "poor" background, but they were also farther away.Being a complete idiot I forgot to zoom in :frown:
EOS 1DX
200-400 mm F4 with 1.4 EX at 280 mm
F6.3
ISO 800
1/800
Getting used to a zoom after years of primes is proving difficult

Ah, the zoom feature. I too sometimes forget that I can zoom when using my 200-400. Must be all that conditioning with the 500mm. In actuality, you couldn't have zoomed in very much and still have both lions in frame with sufficient space on the edges. I think it is a great shot. Well done.

Great poses and action, Ken! I agree with Jerry, quite like it as framed - but have you cropped this as posted?

This is a much better action shot, Ken. You can see both lions' faces, and there is no termite mound in the bg to distract viewers. My only wish is that a tighter crop would emphasise the action even better, and if this were mine, I would even remove the fallen tree stump and the elephant dung. How about it?

Hi Ken,

I prefer this shot to your previous lion fighting post. Yes, could be cropped/zoomed in a little more, but if this is full-frame you have sufficient pixels to allow a tighter crop and still have a very "usable" image.

Cheers...

Morkel and Brad,
Not at home at the moment but I would estimate the crop at around 50%

Super action Ken, a pity you didn't zoom in more.

Fantastic shot, Ken! Dramatic and suspenseful just bursts out at the viewer. Easy to forgive the "mistake" of forgetting to zoom: it's great as is, and besides you were probably frying your brains with adrenalin. Congrats on the Pick for this image!
