Bleeding Hearts aglow

by Carolyn Derstine

I have several Bleeding Heart plants that are blooming right now so I was experimenting with various photo arrangements. For this one, I put black velvet behind the stem and leaves. The sun was backlighting this branch above the black background, seeming to set these leaves and hearts aglow.

Canon 60D. 180mm macro lens. F/13 for 1/5 sec. ISO 100. Tripod mounted, natural lighting.

Ahhh, how nice a black background works. Beautiful back lighting, excellent exposure, and great processing.

Beautiful sun light to bring out the glowing reds and green leaves. That is a near perfect arrangement spun at just the right angle to show off those inner veins that mirror the heart-shape. Well done. Black b/g works well.

Really like your work using the black velvet Carolyn.
I aim to try this myself if I ever get my hands on some:wink:

Carolyn:

Fabulous image. Love the arrangement and the backlighting. Might tweak with toning done the green a little to give the bleeding heart a lit more prominence.

Beautifully staged, processed and presented. One of my favorite bleeding hears images. No suggestions.

Carolyn - Another Eye Candy here. Great use of the light and the dark background really highlights that lighting.

Sweet lighting and composition. Wonder what it would look like even more minimalist, ie without the leaves. Nice.
