Towhee?

Canon 5D Mark II. Tamron 70-300. 1/50, f9. I was actually shooting hummingbirds on a nearby bottlebrush when I noticed this little guy. Not sure how much of the bush I should leave or crop but I like the lavender color so I went with being more inclusive. Does anyone know what the bush is? And is this a towhee?
Suggestions very welcome.

Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus). Can't say what the bush is.

Very nice image of this bird, Lucy! I like the image as is, showing the beautiful bush and environment.

Colorful setting you had here. I like that you included quite some environment - some more space on the right hand side would make it even better, but I like it as it is! Cheers, Hans

I like the composition of this image. Why were you shooting at 1/50 ? Looks like you had plenty of light. A higher shutter speed may have helped reduce the softness of this photo. Thanks for sharing. These are neat birds.

Lovely flowers and Towhee, Lucy. I agree the bird should be a bit further left, but I'd hat to lose any of those flowers to do it.

A nice scene with the flowers. Composition feels a bit awkward with the bird that far right, but understand the flowers. I would back off on the saturation as the image is suffering from it. Blacks on a towhee are pretty dark, but detail should be visible.

Thank you for the helpful comments. The shutter speed was due mostly to lack of time. I had been concentrating on hummers at a nearby bottlebrush when I spotted the towhee and was so excited I didn't think I'd have time to adjust anything but the focus.

What a great setting to capture this towhee in Lucy, I would crop just a sliver from the right but leave the top bush intact, drop the saturation a bit :toast:
