From Slumber

A dogwood as its leaves and flowers were just emerging from a winters slumber in mid April in Yosemite Valley. Your thoughts appreciated.

It really needs to be seen very big, not even the larger file size here does it justice.

4x5, f22.7, 4 sec, Nikon 150mm, Fuji Provia 100F, TK actions in post processing.

Large version looking fabulous. Love how the light makes your subject come alive.

The large view is special, Youssef. If I could suggest anything at all it would be to reduce the blue in the upper left to further isolate the subject.

Youssef,

What strikes me here, among many things, is that you have captured and composed this in the dogwood's "infancy." No big blooms, no sprouted leaves... yet this captures the essence of the dogwood in it's early stages of bloom. I may have been inclined to "zoom in" capturing the ordered chaos of the branches, but I think you made a wise choice in giving this some context. Combined, this works beautifully.

I was there for a short overnight trip last week - sorry I missed you. Didn't even compose a dogwood image....

I like this one very much.

Thanks Lon. I was there with my four kids for four days and three nights. We camped in Camp 4, on a whim. I had hoped to find the black oaks budding but the dogwoods were all that was starting. I think by now all the trees have leafed out.

BTW I did do a close up of only the chaos but I liked this one in the end better.

I agree Youssef, the details matter in a scene like this. I'd love to see the large print!
