This weekend I started photographing with a 500mm f/4. It was a dream that came true. Unfortunately, it is very very hard to buy such lens here in Brazil.

I went to Lagoa dos Peixes, a wonderful place for birding. I have a lot of images to edit.

I want to start with this beautiful Many-colored Rush Tyrant, one of the most beautiful birds in Brazil, IMO.

Bird was called.

f/4, 1/400, ISO 400, -2/3
Canon 7D, 500mm f/4

What a beautiful and colorful bird. My only suggestions is that this would work as a vertical image as well, way to go. Congratulations on getting the 500 lens.

Sweet looking little guy. Take care of that 500! They don't come cheap! I don't know about a vertical crop, but a 4:5 crop To the reed and a little behind the bird to keep the third position would work.

Excellent detail. I like the pose as you have him. I can see what the others are looking at in suggesting different crops, but the comp works for me as is. Nice job. Congrats on getting the lens.

Wow, that is a beautiful bird, and this is a beautiful picture of it, too. The background is what I call absolutely perfect, showing a recognizable, but not distracting environment. Given the background, I like the comp as-is. Cropping the left side would make the perch hit the corner -- not the best choice. Cropping to a vertical comp would be OK too, but a bit too tight for my taste, so I think this presentation is just right.

Thank you guys, for all the comments.

I'm still in the learning process, and it is very important to get all your feedback. I appreciate that.

In this particular photo, it was interesting to see different opinions about the composition. Thanks for adding your point of view. It gives me different perspectives about composition.

Thank you!
