Botany Bay Sunrise

My first visit to the Charleston, SC area and hopefully not my last. This beach is littered with trees that have succumbed to the unrelenting beach erosion. I visited the beach on three separate mornings hoping to get that wow sunrise, but it never quite happened. This must be a popular place with the photographers because on each occasion there was a group of photographers with the same idea.

Thanks for taking a look and leaving a comment or suggestion.

The sunrise ain't that bad, Ed. This is one of the best looking trees I've seen from that area. Great subject matter. What do you think about a horizontal or square comp, cropping both top and bottom? Just a thought. :toast:

As a lone tree shooter this is a good find. Nice light :jump: i think a 4x5 crop with some off the top and bottom might work too. :wavey:

This is a wonderful silhouette, and I like the rays of the sun against the dark trunk. Colors are appealing, also.

I'm a bit distracted by the clouds in the top, so I might be tempted to crop them away, but otherwise it's a great sunrise photo! Well seen!

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions everyone; they are much appreciated. Thanks for the crop suggestion; I think that does improve the composition. I do have a horizontal version taken prior to this which I will post next.

Looks like a fine sunrise to me, set off nicely by that fine tree silhouette. I agree with the crop suggestions, especially the clouds at the top.

This is an interesting capture, Ed. Not sure I ever recall seeing a tree isolated like this on a saltwater beach. The backdrop sunrise really adds another dimension to the scene. Nicely seen and the follow up visits to capture this shot.

Great tree, great sky, Ed. If anything I'd wish for a little more room on the right. Nice find. :toast:
