That's how my husband refers to Mallards, because they are by far the ducks we most commonly see around here.

I love "regular ducks", can't beat that green head for sheer attention getting. Nice job catching the iridescence on that head, a catchlight in the eye. The reflection and wake adds some interest amidst the plain blue water. I sort of wonder whether or not f11 was needed here, I personally might have used f8 or even 7.1 for shooting a duck broadside with a 400, just me.

Nice detail in the larger image, Barb. A sweet reflection and amazingly still water.

Gary, I agree with you about Mallards and I think you have a good idea about a wider aperture. I'm always concerned about dof with a long lens, but as you said, for shooting a duck broadside a wider aperture should be okay.

I love Mallards. That brilliant green head can't be beat. You did an excellent job capturing the color and the reflection. I would have liked a lower perspective, but that is only me, others would differ.
