This is/was the Lexington Resort,in Lexington, NY, Northern Catskills, one of many such resorts or hotels in the region whose heyday has long passed. Very few still stand at all. I like photographing this one at different times of the year, because here, in spring, you see how the greenery has taken it over, but at other times of year the actual building is more visible. I process many of my pictures of this kind of subject matter in monochrome, but here I wanted to accentuate the greenery overtaking the building. When you think of it, there's an ironic contrast between the freshness of the greenery and the ruined state of the building. Please see LARGER image as well.

An excellent observation on this scene, Nancy. I really like seeing this old building. As a resort I'm sure many folks had some wonderful visits here back in the "heyday" as you've pointed out. My gosh, if the walls could only speak I'm sure there would be some great stories to be heard.
A really nice post for this weeks theme.

I agree with Paul, the combination of the living green and the weathered pealing paint give this a real feeling of abandonment.

Nancy, this is perfect for this challenge. I love the vibrant foliage and the stage of dilapidation of this resort. In it's prime I'm sure no one envisioned it current condition.

I like the way you used the greenery to frame the scene and also, as you said, make it look like the greenery is taking over the building. The little trees near the porch look they are working/growing their way to "move in" to the building soon. Still some beautiful architecture and design visible. Too bad some of that couldn't be recycled instead of just being left to rot. Certainly works great for the theme, Nancy.

The difference between the bright spring greens and the decaying hotel works very well. Well seen.
