Resting Lionesses

A totally unnatural pose for Lions as they are awake, well almost
They are actually resting after a very half-hearted "hunt for Zebra.

Taken in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, after sunset

EOS 1D MkIV
200-400 mm F4 at 225mm
F4
ISO 1600

Very nice. Both lions are in focus. I wish the sleepy lion in the background had opened her eye a bit moire, but hey, she was probably tired from chasing the zebras. (smile) I am still amazed at how sharp the 200-400 zoom is. It's like having an infinite number of prime lens.

An adorable frame, very nicely done!
You may give it a closer crop.

They do look very relaxed....I think I need a nap. It's good that you got both lions sharp and the soft light lets the details show well.

Hi Ken,

Always nice to see subjects relaxed and completely unstressed in the presence of a photographer. I like the expressions and you did a good job getting both in focus at such a wide aperture. Perhaps not the most inspiring or photogenic setting, but little you could do about that.

Cheers...

Being a "cat person" the positions may not be normal for Lions, but they are very normal for a domestic, so maybe it is just something the big cats don't show too often. Excellent detail. I like the soft even lighting. I'm incline to agree an a slight crop to more of a panel.

I like the hint of light hitting them and the poses. I'd also support the suggestion to crop closer here, from left and top.
