Another one from last Saturday's session with the Rufous Hummingbirds. I used the Shadows/Highlights tool to help bring out the shadowed areas a bit more on this one. The color balance is as shot.

7D, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f5.6, 1/800, iso 640, Av mode with +2/3 stop compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 8.7 MP of the original 18.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Dennis, Love the Hummer. Can you pull back on the sky without having it posterize on you? :toast:

I think I can, Rick. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.

Colors in this are insane Dennis! Love it...especially pops with the HK BG.

The colors in the bird are spectacular, with a fine glow. The clean background isolates the bird well, but I'm not sure about the brightness.

A very nice shot and the bird is sweet and the colors are great. I am not keen on the bright BG.

The colors are really nice. Looks like the light direction wasn't ideal, however, you made the most of it. Overall, a nice capture. Wish I had a hummingbird image this good in my portfolio.

Excellent image Dennis. I normally try to avoid high key backgrounds, but this works very well. Warm light and great detail. The angle of light helps bring out the subtle textures in the hummer. Well done. Dave

There have been some differing opinions on the high key bg and the original post had the reds clipped in the white bib. I went back and reprocessed the image by creating a separate layer for the foreground and processing it differently than the bg. I also moved the color temperature down to -7 in LR5 to desaturate the reds. Here's the repost.

Thanks for all your comments. :wavey:
