Where's my dinner?

I found this western kingbird nest at White Rock lake in Dallas. In this same tree there was also a mourning dove nest and in another tree 10 feet away there was a Baltimore oriole nest. I like this particular shot because all the mouths were wide open and the light from the eve sun was hitting the birds just right. The nest was only about ten feet off the ground but to get this shot I had to find an opening through all the branches and stand on a chair to get a decent look at the nest. I stayed far enough back so the parents and the babies didn't seem to mind my presence the least bit. It is about that time of year to start looking for nests again.

Thank you for looking and for any comments.

Very cute, the DOF and OOF foliage makes me feel like I'm right there...

Well done. The lighting here is wonderful. There are two small leaves just protruding into the blue at the top. I think those could go.

The placement of the hungry birds right in a shaft of light is perfect. Nice action and pose from the 3 and you took great advantage of it. A nice color palette supports keeping attention on these hungry nestlings. Nice capture.

Sweet image, Robert. The three youngsters and those glowing beaks are great. My only nit is that just a touch more dof would have brought the rear chick into nice crisp focus. The beak is sharp enough, but the eye is just a bit soft on that one. Still a real killer shot. I'd love to get something this good.

I feel like I'm the feeding these chicks. Very interesting with all three mouths open and ready to indulge in a good meal. Good thing you had a chair nearby. I can see that if you didn't get high enough you would not have been able to clear all the leaves. That time of year again!! Happy Hunting.
