Another image from my session with the wattlebirds last week. This is a juvenile bird. Setup and some playback used.
Thanks for looking, Greg.

Nice choice of perch here Greg (assuming this is a staged area). If so, really nice decisions you made on this one. Love the colors and as usual the techs are excellent.

This thumbnail caught my eye instantly.

Not only is the image really detailed. Something about the composition, colors, the elements come together perfectly. The green leaves, their position is perfect to me. That 300 2.8 is awesome, right?

Did you crop any? Not sure what 'setup and some playback means', but I'd love to know more details of how you made this shot.
Awesome!

Very appealing setup here, Greg. The splash of colors against that background is lovely. Is that a piece of grass at the end of the beak, or its tongue?

Super shot Greg. :toast: What has he got just at the tip of his bill? I had to be in the large image before I even saw it the first time.

Your set ups are amazing. Beautiful image. Could you enlighten us on just what your setups involve and what is a playback?

Another stunner Greg. Love the tongue action. Can it really reach the nectar in the flower that far away?? Just a perfect perch Greg. The background compliments wonderfully and depth of field is awesome. Nice job stopping down to get everything sharp. :toast:

Thanks for the comments and feedback guys - always much appreciated!
A number of you have asked about setups and playback in my images.
Basically it is choosing nice looking perches, placing them manually in a pleasing manner, and then using either call playback or a water/food source to attract the bird to the setup.
It sounds easy, but I can assure you it isn't! You need lots of patience and attention to detail as the bird almost never lands in the exact right position, or the pose is wrong, or the bird never lands on the perch at all, even after hours of trying!
It's definitely rewarding, however, when it comes together
Cheers, Greg

PS. The object at the end of the beak is the bird's tongue.
Wattlebirds are honeyeaters that glean nectar from flowers using a long protruding tongue. This bird has just finished feeding from the flower at top right.
