Yellow-headed Caracara

After being out for a while, today I went out to try some bird photography.

I found this guy quiet on a perch. I was driving, it allowed me to go back, stop the car, turn the engine off and do some shots.

A very nice clean shot. Good light and background, and I like that you got it perched in the open rather than scrounging on the ground.

I do have to ask about the ID though. It looks like a yellow-headed caracara to me. I've photographed chimangos in Patagonia, and they were more brown all over, whereas this one looks just like the yellow-headed caracaras I've shot in Costa Rica. Are there regional differences that make the chimango in Brazil look different?

Hello Max,
you're right. When I copied & pasted the name from a local birds website, I did'n realized I made a mistake. Thanks for pointing it up.

Regards,
Jefferson

Nice comp and very nice detail. I'd try pulling back just a bit on the highlights and possibly darkening the sky as well. Very nice.

Beautiful, Jefferson. Excellent lighting and detail. I might think about taking a touch off the bottom and the left as I think there's a bit more space on the left than necessary, but that's just my taste.

Jefferson,
Sweet take. What a cool looking bird.....and very cooperative. The larger version shows pretty good details and I also agree with Rick on pulling back a touch on the highlights and to darken sky a touch. :) I agree with Dennis about this being a little bit lose in the frame. I'd take some off the bottom and some off the left. Personal preference is all. All in all, a really good image of a neat looking bird. Never seen one before.

Wonderful pose and perch and I like the second post better as it does reduce some brightness but retains nice detail, way to go.
